Who: South Eastern Syndey Recovery College, Drug and Alcohol Wellbeing Education Project

The South Eastern Syndey Recovery College is seeking people with personal experience of drug and alcohol concerns and mental distress who have skills in writing and/or facilitating recovery-oriented training, to work with clinical educators to co-develop and co-deliver courses for the college. The courses will be delivered between February – June 2018.

Criteria for Peer (Consumer) Recovery and Wellbeing Educators – Drug and Alcohol Wellbeing Education Project

  1. Personal experience of drug and alcohol concerns and mental distress; and ability to use the lived experience in training
  2. Experience in developing and/or delivering training and education
  3. Solid understanding of and commitment social and emotional wellbeing philosophy
  4. Ability and willingness to work in collaboration with other team members, including mental health clinicians
  5. Strong verbal and written communication skills
  6. Ability to manage own time effectively and work to a deadline

Peer Recovery and Wellbeing Educator Duties

As a Peer Educator you will be required to undertake the following:

  • Work in partnership with a Clinical Educator, to co-write and/or co-facilitate courses
  • Attend regular meetings and additional consultations as required
  • Provide regular progress updates to the Recovery College Education Coordinator
  • Attend the Recovery College Educator Training Program courses (RPL available) *Please note attendance at this training is strongly encouraged, however, it is not compulsory. Payment is not provided for attendance at these training sessions.

Note the above activities will occur in various locations across South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. Course development may be worked from home and some communication will occur via phone and email. Courses are run in the Eastern Suburbs, St George and Sutherland areas.

What is the Recovery College?

The Recovery College provides adult education that enables people to become experts in their self-care and develop skills and confidence to manage their own recovery and wellbeing. The college explicitly recognise the expertise of lived experience and the expertise of health professionals.  All Recovery College courses are co-produced, co-delivered and co-received by staff, people with mental distress, drug and alcohol concerns and the people who are close to them.
