Have your say  Integrative medicine clinic needs consumer reps

Wed 18, Apr 2018

Deadline: Monday, 7 May 2018
Who: NICM Health Research Institute at Western Sydney University

The NICM Health Research Institute at Western Sydney University is currently developing a model of care for their proposed academic integrative medicine clinic at Westmead.

The centre will include complementary and integrative therapies that support many national health service priorities such as chronic disease, pain management, healthy minds, integrative oncology, and integrative women’s health and is due to open in late 2018.

The university is looking for consumer representatives who are interested in being part of a community reference group for the clinic.

The group will include approximately eight to 10 representatives from different community avenues. The role of this group mainly serves to complement community engagement in service design and delivery at the centre and will advise on all aspects of community involvement. It is envisaged that the group will meet three times per year, with ad hoc out-of-session emails as needed.

Members of the community reference group will meet face to face once or twice only in the first year (and by teleconference as required). Membership is a volunteer appointment; however, group members will be provided with a meal and/or refreshments at each meeting, and the university will meet reasonable travel expenses.

The team are currently seeking suitable consumer representatives in the following six areas (either with interest or expertise in these areas):

  • chronic disease
  • pain management
  • healthy hearts
  • healthy minds and mental health
  • women’s health, and
  • cancer support and management
