Our staff

Our staff help run the day-to-day activites of Health Consumers NSW. A small office of currently one-full time and four part-time staff plus project and training consultants are here to help you with any questions or queries.

Anthony Brown

Dr Anthony Brown

Executive Director

Anthony has been working as our full-time Executive Director since April 2014. He is passionate about consumer and carer engagement and was a member of the Steering Committee which helped establish HCNSW in 2012. He has worked for the Men’s Health Information and Resource Centre at the University of Western Sydney and the Council for the Ageing before joining us. His vision for HCNSW is to make sure that health providers really listen to and show respect to health consumers, their families and carers.





Emma Collins

Training Manager

Emma is a passionate, creative and experienced educator who has worked in both the education and mental health sectors in NSW. Prior to joining HCNSW, Emma worked in the NSW Public Mental Health Sector, empowering consumers with a lived experience of mental illness to achieve their personal recovery goals and to be actively involved in individual and systemic advocacy. As Deputy Chair of the NSW Consumer Peer Workforce Committee, Emma has advocated within NSW Health to improve the mental health system through trauma-informed, strengths-based and recovery-oriented practice.



Serena Joyner

Serena Joyner

Consumer Engagement Manager

Serena is passionate about breaking down barriers for consumers to participate in health on a level playing field. She works with health services to help them improve or develop their engagement programs. In 2013-14 Serena project managed the joint WentWest-HCNSW project that produced a new Consumer and Community Engagement Model. In an earlier role she spent four years supporting health consumer representatives and consumer leaders with the implementation of a joint Medicare Local/Local Health District consumer engagement program. Serena is an experienced facilitator and project manager with a Master of Social Research (ANU).


 Julia Brockhausen

Communication Officer 

Julia is a communications and media professional with over 10 years experience spanning the TV, corporate and public sectors and a Master of International Communication. Julia has worked for the NSW Department of Family and Community Services as well as universities and communication agencies. She is passionate about helping consumers, patients and carers to have a voice. Julia is responsible for all communication and media projects and brings you The Wrap and Update!, our e-newsletters. Please contact her for any communication or media inquiries. Julia works three days a week: Wednesday to Friday.



Jenn Kidd

Jenn Kidd

Administration and Memberships Coordinator

Jenn is our Administration and Memberships Coordinator and came to HCNSW in March 2013. She has 20 years experience in office administration from a variety of roles in large multi-national and FMCG companies. Jenn is passionate about equity, respect and health education. She is proud to work for HCNSW as an organisation which is committed to improving health and wellbeing outcomes for health consumers in all communities across NSW. If you have any questions in regards to HCNSW and our services ask Jenn - she will be the one to know the answer. Jenn works four days a week, Mondays and Wednesdays to Fridays.



Alex Carbonetti

Freelance Training Consultant

Alex is a Learning and Development Consultant who runs some of our training programs together with Sarah. Alex is engaged in a range of projects across the Community Services and Health sectors. She has over 25 years experience in adult education in both organisational and Registered Training Organisation settings, facilitating the professional development of employees, volunteers and students in a number of organisations including: ParaQuad NSW, Ageing Disability and Home Care (ADHC), Hunter New England LHD and TAFE NSW.



Gavi Ansara

Dr Gávi Ansara

Manager, Intersections Project

Dr Gávi is passionate about making sure all people with long-term health care needs can achieve health engagement, access, and equity. Gávi received the American Psychological Association’s Transgender Research Award for original and significant research, the UK Higher Education Academy’s National Psychology Postgraduate Teaching Award for excellence in teaching, and the University of Surrey Vice Chancellor’s Alumni Achievement Award for outstanding contributions to policies and standards in international human rights and social justice. He is a Polycultural Psychotherapist and Relationship & Family Counsellor at Imanadari Counselling. Gávi brings a warm, validating, and trauma-informed approach to engaging with people's diverse life experiences.
