Become part of research team investigating rapid flu testing in EDs in NSW
Deadline: Friday, 4 January 2019
Who: The Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Macquarie University
The Australian Institute of Health Innovation, Macquarie University, is looking for up to five health consumer reps to establish a Consumer Reference Group (CRG) to provide insights into patient perspectives on rapid flu testing in Emergency Departments (EDs) and become part of a research project.
The consumers first task will be to provide input and comments for the preparation of the ethics application (due 18 January 2019) and grant application (due 13 March 2019). This will involve one or two meetings for the development of the ethics and grant applications in early to mid-January (most likely via teleconference).
If the grant is successful, the aim of the CRG will be to develop meaningful patient-centred outcome measures to gauge the impact of rapid flu testing on patients’ quality of care experience in the ED and the community post-discharge (e.g., time to return to work, medication adherence etc.). Members of the CRG will also be represented in the Project Steering Group. This will ensure that consumer representatives are engaged for the duration of the study, enhancing consumer contributions to the evidence base in health services research.
Reimbursement for the consumer engagement has been budgeted for the actual research project but regrettably won’t be available for consumer engagement during the ethics and grant application development.
If funded, two consumers will receive sitting fees and local travel allowance to attend eight steering committee meetings over 2019 and 2020, and up to five consumers will receive sitting fees and local travel allowance to attend consumer reference group meetings (one in 2019, one in 2020).
A dedicated researcher will be a point of contact for support and mentoring for consumers on the project.
