Murray McLachlan
Nominated by Cancer Voices NSW.
Murray is a Deputy Chair of Cancer Voices NSW and has worked on a voluntary basis for the Cancer Council of NSW on the NSW Central Coast, focusing on policy and advocacy and on the representation of health consumers in the NSW health system.
His personal cancer experiences include the death of his long-term partner from pancreatic cancer in 2007 and successful surgical intervention for prostate cancer in 2009.
Murray’s consumer advocacy work builds on his professional life in the NSW public sector. He is focussing on working with governmental decision-makers and influencers and on policy development and implementation, as well as his involvement with Sydney’s LGBTIQ communities, including as president of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras with a particular emphasis on governance, diversity and inclusion.
Murray’s familiarity with and understanding of the NSW health system has been further deepened by his other health experiences including in relation to cardiac and stroke occurrence, treatment and rehabilitation.
