Health consumer representation, engagement and participation training
We offer training and education programs for health consumer representatives, health service staff and researchers. Our aim is to increase the confidence of consumers, staff and researchers to implement health consumer engagement in any setting.
Through collaborative peer learning, facilitated discussions, workshop activities and networking opportunities, we empower individuals and communities to provide meaningful contributions to health service improvement, delivery, evaluation and innovation as well as health and medical research.
Training for health consumer representatives
Introduction to Consumer Representation (CR101): Free online training for consumers. Are you looking to know more about consumer representation in health services? Exploring Consumer Representation (CR201): This course teaches the same content as our previous face-to-face course, optimised for an online training experience.
It provides education, support and networking opportunities for new and experienced health consumers engaged in advocacy and representative roles within health services. Learn about the concepts and practises of consumer engagement in the NSW health system. There is a FEE to pay for this in-depth, online run course. Training for health services staff
Introductory Staff (CE101): This will be a FREE, online, 30-minute course for health and medical staff to learn about health consumer engagement in health services and how to embed this in your organisation. This course will come in early 2023 on HCNSW e-learning.
Exploring Consumer Engagement (CE201): This course teaches the same content as our previous face-to-face staff course, optimised for an online training experience.
It provides education, regulatory background (Standard 2), methods, templates, case studies and networking opportunities for staff working in consumer engagement in their organisation. There is a FEE to pay for this in-depth, online run course. This course will come to HCNSW e-learning in 2023 and we will announce the 2023 study periods soon.
Graduate Certificate in Consumer and Community Engagement: This program is currently unavailable as is being reviewed by the Health Issues Centre in Victoria. This nationally accredited, four-day course provides an in-depth examination of consumer and community engagement for staff who work in the area of consumer engagement. Health Consumers NSW and Health Issues Centre have partnered to specifically tailor this course to consumer engagement in NSW. Further information to follow soon…
Consumers in research: Training for consumers, researchers and clinicians
Introduction to Consumer Involvement in Health Research (CCI101A): This fee-based, online introductory course about consumers in research projects will be released on HCNSW e-learning in December 2022.
Introduction to Consumer Involvement in Health Research, 2hr, F2F/Zoom (CCI101B): This fee-based introductory 2-hour workshop, delivered either face-to-face or via Zoom, is for health consumers and researchers/clinicians who want to either become involved as consumer researchers or want to include consumers in their research. It provides a great base to learn about models and methods of consumer engagement in research and hear about successful case studies. Who, what, when and how of Consumer Involvement in Health Research: This is an intermediate, 4-5-hour, face-to-face course and workshop that builds on the introductory workshop. It is for consumers, researchers and clinicians who have some experience with being involved in research and involving consumers in research.
