2024 teaching periods
Term 1: 30 January – 12 April 2024
Term 2: 29 April – 5 July 2024
Term 3: 22 July – 27 September 2024
Term 4: 14 October – 20 December 2024
Who is this course for?
It is for health consumer representatives engaged with NSW Local Health Districts, Primary Health Networks, public or private hospitals and health-related NGOs. Currently, online training is the only health consumer representative training we offer to mixed groups. It is also convenient for health consumer representatives who cannot attend our face-to-face classes due to travel distance or health-related issues. We are planning to run mixed face-to-face health consumer training in the second half of 2023 again.
How does it work?
Participants have six weeks of access to a private training group on our online engagement and training site Moodle. During that time, they complete five online modules, which involve some reading, answering questions online, and participating in online chat forums.
Participants also have two monthly Zoom live classes. During these, participants have the opportunity to chat with their fellow classmates, do some workshop activities, and ask any questions they may have or discuss issues they want to raise with the group, or with the trainer.
The approximate time commitment to finish the course: 8-12 hours
What do I need?
Participants need access to a computer/device with a reliable internet connection, functioning webcam and speakers. Participants can choose to print out extra course and study materials themselves or, where this is not possible, we can send hardcopy materials via post.
Program fee
$350 (including GST)
Note: If you are an existing health consumer representative with a Local Health District, Primary Health Network, hospital, or a similar organisation, your organisation should pay for you to attend this training. If you are not associated with an organisation, please contact us to discuss payment options.

Please note: We know that online training isn’t for every health consumer representative and patient advocate and our Board and staff are continuously monitoring the situation with the aim to provide face-to-face training for mixed groups in the second half of 2023 again.
As of November 2020, we are able to provide face-to-face health consumer representative training to small staff groups of the same organisation at the organisation’s premises. If you are interested in this, please contact us at elearning@hcnsw.org.au to discuss your training and pricing.
Registration
Use the form below to register yourself (health consumers) or your organisation’s health consumer representatives (health services staff) for one of our upcoming online teaching periods.
State clearly who is paying for the training (usually the health organisation working with the consumer representative) and let us know if you have any special requirements.
