Family presence and patient visitation
In an attempt to control the spread of COVID-19 infection within our health facilities, visiting patients in hospital (and our older citizens in aged care homes) and accompanying patients through emergency and outpatient clinics has come under intense scrutiny. Many facilities have amended patient visitation rules as a result. Family presence and visitation continues to be reviewed and adapted. Performance will be assessed, and lessons will be taken from these responses.
Patient and family voices are vital in these discussions and reviews. Patient perspectives contribute to broadening, nuancing and balancing critical issues. To kick off our contribution to these discussions, Laila will provide an overview of a handful of recent and not so recent articles and reports relating to family presence and patient visitation – some of which are in the document library of The Consumer Representative Hub. In addition, sharing your understanding, experiences and feedback of local responses will inform our discussion, from which we can begin developing our thoughts and ideas.
